Metformin HCL

Metformin HCL is a drug taken orally and is said to be a relatively safe and effective drug, which has the ability to increase both the quality and lifespan of those human beings who are lucky enough to have insulin resistance. It is the primary drug of choice for treatment of type 2 diabetes and is found in the biguanide class. The Metformin HCL is administered in patients with type 2 diabetes and in particular, overweight and obese people and those with normal kidney function. It is also used for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome and for other diseases where insulin resistance may be an important factor. Administering the Metformin HCL greatly reduces the amount of sugar made by liver and limits the amount of sugar absorbed into the body from the diet, thus making insulin receptors more sensitive by helping the body to respond better to its own insulin. Metformin HCL is primarily used in treating primarily type 2 diabetes and also increasingly being used in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and premature puberty. Metformin HCL is mainly used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2, which occurs especially in overweight people. When compared with insulin and sulfonylureas, Metformin HCL reduces diabetes complications and overall mortality by about 30% after 10 years of treatment. In this group, administering of Metformin HCL may be the first-line pharmacological therapy of choice than insulin and sulphonylureas. With intensive glucose control by Metformin HCL, it decreases the risk of diabetes related endpoints in overweight people affected by diabetes. Also, it has been noted that Metformin HCL has no effect on body weight. Administering Metformin HCL controls the same blood sugar levels as in the case of administering of insulin and sulfonylureas, but it also decreases mortality primarily through decreasing heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular complications. Emil Werner and James Bell first described the Metformin HCL, in the scientific literature in 1922, as a product in the synthesis of N, N-dimethylguanidine. But it was forgotten, and it was only in 1950 that a prominent Philippine physician, Eusebio Y. Garcia used Metformin HCL to treat influenza. He noted that the drug was non-toxic and lowered the blood sugar to minimum physiological limit. He believed that this drug had bacteriostatic, antiviral, antimalarial, antipyretic and analgesic actions. In 1954, Polish pharmacologist Janusz Supniewski in his report was unable to confirm the effects as described by Garcia which included lowered blood sugar, but he noted some antiviral effects in humans. French diabetologist Jean Sterne being prompted by Garcia’s report reinvestigated the blood sugar lowering activity of Metformin HCL and several biguanide analogs while working at Laboratoires Aron in Paris. Metformin hcl is also known as Metformin hydrochloride and Glucophage. It is an oral drug that comes in the form of a tablet and also comes in the form of extended release tablets. When someone is prescribed this medication it is usually to help control type 2 diabetes. The regular tablets can be 500 mg, 850mg or 1000mg. However, the extended release tablets only have two options which are 500mg or 750mg. The 500mg extended release tablets contain inactive ingredients that include, but are not limited to, magnesium stearate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and hypromellose. The term Metformin hcl is actually short for Metformin hydrochloride. Usually, patients will take this medicine a minimum of one time a day to as much as three times a day. It is available in several different forms as well as a variety of different strengths. However, all of the forms are taking orally. Usually, a doctor will prescribe a patient to take a tablet or the liquid form.

Metformin hcl works in a few different ways. First, it reduces the amount of sugar that the liver produces. Second, it decreases the amount of sugar that the body absorbs from different foods. Third, it helps the body be able to respond better to its own insulin. These three things alone help the patient’s blood sugar level decrease.

Metformin hydrochloride (HCL) is a drug that is prescribed by doctors to patients who are experiencing type 2 diabetes. It is a good method for children, age ten and older, and adults to try if they are dealing with the condition. When Metformin hcl is used in combination with a good diet and excellent exercise habits there is no way that positive results will not occur.

What its does for patients that have type 2 diabetes is make sure that blood sugar stays under control. The drug is able to do this by decreasing the amount of sugar that the liver generates, decreasing the amount of sugars that gets absorbed by the body and by helping the body be able to respond to its own insulin better. Even though this drug is primarily for diabetes type 2 patients there have also been some reports of it working for other conditions as well, such as, gestational diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome and HIV lipodystropy.
